about

Having been dubbed ‘one of this town’s most exciting new bands’ by Inpress magazine, Dear Stalker have made it their business to pummel audiences with what has become their signature sound: singer/guitarist Lisa Maxwell’s snarling guitar and vocals that escalate from an alluring whisper to an intimidating roar, coupled with the monstrous rhythm section that is bassist Adam Learner and drummer Alan Murphy - a force to be reckoned with. It’s a hell of a lot of fun.

Whole Other Kind follows Dear Stalker’s 2010 self-titled debut EP, described by Beat Magazine as ‘quite brilliant’. The EP’s third track, Trouble, was picked up for release in the USA as part of Hollywood label 272 Records’ Riot On Sunset compilation series, meanwhile the video for the EP’s lead track, In A Right Mind, received national airplay on Rage, and can still be seen on regular rotation on Melbourne’s Channel 31.

Whole Other Kind (featured in Tony McMahon’s top 5 Songs of the Year, published in the 2012 Inpress Writer’s Poll) ventures into darker territory for Dear Stalker. Knowing they were onto something special, the band teamed up with Joshua Whitehead at Crosstown SoundStudio, ripping through takes in just four hours, exactly seven days after the song was written. This recording process captured the band’s raw energy, excitement and the nervous tension that only happens when a song is so new, delivering a track packed with intense dynamics and an undeniable sense of urgency. The colourful yet confronting video for Whole Other Kind, once again produced by Snowgum Films, blurs the lines between delusion and reality and offers a glimpse into a twisted fairytale world inside Lisa’s head.

2013 sees Dear Stalker heading back into the studio to begin recording their debut album. Meanwhile they continue to bring their energetic grunge/pop tunes to a venue near you. Stay tuned!
